Should I hate myself for being an American?

There is a lot of things I hate about my country. I'm American, and I'm proud to be one. I'm not an arrogant man, and I don't look down on anyone from any group of people. Although I love freedom, and democracy, there's a lot of things I'm against. For one thing we have a lot more crime than any other nation in the world. I like learning about other countries. I like reading about Japan, and I've read a little bit about Canada. I've visited Mexico a couple times, and visited Jamaica once. Is there something wrong with defending ourselves, and others against terrorism?
